question on bungeecord versions and minecraft's

Hi im just wondering is the latest bungeecord compatible with older minecraft versions ?
or would i have to use bungeecord #701 = 1.6.4 and worry about the ip forwarding because there is no ip_forward: in the config atm.
then again i am not sure which bungee version i am running
